Roland was instrumental in developing this web page but unfortunately passed away in September 2015, and is still sorely missed. He was an atmospheric scientist interested in the impact of emissions of passively degassing as well as explosively erupting volcanoes on the composition of the atmosphere and climate. He mainly used numerical models – the 1D model MISTRA and the regional 3D model WRF-CHEM – but also conducted field measurements. He worked on Mt Etna, Sicily, Italy and Masaya, Nicaragua.
